Social calls of the Particolored bat (Vespertilio murinus)

Recordings from -

The Eurasian particolored bat is a difficult species to identify based on their echolocation calls, but their social calls are often quite distinctive. However, in 2021 there were only three confirmed sightings in the Netherlands: the first sighting was made near a light house at the Maasvlakte in 1992, the second in 2016 in the Noordoostpolder and the third in 2019 in Friesland. In 1998 the first maternity roost of the particolored bat was found in the Netherlands, in Maarsenbroek. The second maternity roost was discovered in 2002 in Spijk. In 2016, this colony was reconfirmed and another colony with two roosts was found in Bierum. In 2022 and 2023 a colony with unknown reproduction status was discovered in Holwierde, occupying two roosts that were located close to each other.
